Baila Friday: Where Music, Culture and Fellowship Come Alive

There are some nights that are remembered not because of where they were held, but because of how they made people feel. Baila Friday, organized by the Rotaract Club of APIIT, is one such celebration — a night where music, culture, friendship, and fellowship come together to create an unforgettable experience.

Inspired by the vibrant spirit of Sri Lankan Baila music, Baila Friday was introduced as a fundraising initiative of the Rotaract Club of APIIT. What began as a new concept for the club quickly grew into one of its much-loved signature projects, bringing together students and Rotaractors for an evening filled with rhythm, laughter, and energy.

A Celebration of Sri Lankan Spirit

Baila holds a special place in Sri Lankan culture. Its infectious rhythms and lively melodies have a unique ability to bring people together, regardless of background or language. Baila Friday embraces this spirit by creating a space where everyone can leave their everyday routines behind and simply enjoy the moment.

The 14 August 2026 edition demonstrated this beautifully, transforming Trace Expert City (BAY 07) into a vibrant celebration filled with music and dance. With more than 400 enthusiastic attendees, the venue came alive as Sinhala and Tamil Baila beats filled the atmosphere. The presence of attendees from diverse backgrounds made the evening a true celebration of unity through music.

An Evening of Music, Dance and Memories

From the moment the music began, the energy of Baila Friday was impossible to ignore. The beats brought people together on the dance floor, while vibrant decorations and dynamic lighting added to the festive atmosphere.

The event also featured food and beverage stalls, giving attendees the opportunity to enjoy delicious treats while taking a break from the dance floor. Traditional and contemporary elements came together to create an atmosphere that was both familiar and exciting.

One of the most memorable aspects of Baila Friday was its ability to encourage even the most reserved attendees to join in. As the music continued, the dance floor became a space where students, Rotaractors, Interactors, and guests could connect, have fun, and create memories together.

Behind the music and celebrations lies an important purpose. Baila Friday was organized as a fundraising initiative, allowing the Rotaract Club of APIIT to generate funds while providing the student community with an enjoyable and meaningful experience.
